In the era of globalization, English, as an international language, is our key to access to the whole world. As a high-quality, specialized, international and innovative school, we attach great importance to the English teaching. On December 11, 2023, I-EP has held an English Teaching Exchange Conference “Our World, Big World”, inviting the professionals, experienced teachers and the students' parents to come, discussing more effective English teaching and learning ways under the demands of the new era from different perspectives.
在全球化时代，英语作为国际通用语言，是我们通往世界的钥匙。作为一所高质量、特色化、国际化的创新型学校，我们高度重视英语教学工作。在2023年12月11日，华外创新融合部（I-EP）举办了以“Our World, Big World”为主题的英语教学交流会，邀请国内知名英语教学专家、一线骨干老师以及学生家长们齐聚一堂，以不同的视角发出不同的声音，共同探讨在新时代需求下，更行之有效的英语教学与学习方法。
Education for International Understanding and Global Competence Development
★ Prof. Mei Deming, Dean of the school of English in Shanghai International Studies University; Leader of the Revision Team of English Curriculum Standard for Compulsory Education (2022) of Ministry of National Education; Member of the National Textbook Committee; Member of the Working Committee of Basic Education Curriculum and Textbook Experts of Ministry of Education; Member of the Expert Committee of CATTI Examiination.

Prof. Mei Deming, Dean of the School of English in Shanghai International Studies University, gave a wonderful speech on the theme of "Education for International Understanding and Global Competence Development". He have emphasized the importance of international understanding, elaborated the connotation of the international understanding and the global competence, and combined with the needs of the new era, put forward several inspiring insights on how to cultivate globally competent foreign language talents.
Finally, Prof. Mei also took the series of book "Fun Reading About China" as an example to show us how foreign language education can be both included the elements of China and world. As Prof. Mei said, foreign language education has entered the new era in which core literacy and global competence are the standards for the talent cultivation. As teachers, we should keep up with the pace of the times, and make great efforts to cultivate more open-minded newcomer with a sense of nationalism, and cross-cultural communication skill!
上海外国语大学英语学院院长梅德明教授围绕“国际理解教育与全球胜任⼒发展”主题发表了精彩的演讲。他强调了国际理解的重要性，阐述了国际理解和全球胜任力的内涵，并结合了新时代需求，对如何培养具有全球胜任力的外语人才提出了极具启发性的见解。
最后，梅教授还以《悦读中国》系列图书为例，向我们诠释了外语教育如何做到“更中国，更世界”。正如梅教授所说，外语教育已进入了一个以核心素养和全球胜任力为人才培养标准的新时代。作为老师，我们应该紧跟时代步伐，且行且思，为培养更多具有家国情怀、国际视野和跨文化沟通能力的时代新人而不懈努力！
Making Thinking Visible in the English Classroom
★ Mr. Xu Shisheng, the national famous English educator, Excellent Teacher; Deputy Secretary General of the Chinese Foreign Language Educational Committee; Deputy Director of the Academic Department of National Research Centre for Basic Foreign Languages Education; Director of the National Research Centre for Foreign Languages in the Private Primary and Secondary Schools, and an expert in national training; He has been teaching for a long time and has been the leader of many foreign language schools.

Mr. Xu Shisheng, the Deputy Secretary General of the Foreign Language Committee in the Chinese Educational Society, delivered a lecture with the theme of "Making Thinking Visible in the English Classroom". Firstly, Mr. Xu have emphasized the importance of students' visual thinking. Thinking visualization shows students' thinking process clearly, which can not only effectively improves learners' ability in reading, writing, mathematics and logical thinking, but also allows teachers to better understand students' learning situation and teach them according to their needs.
In the sharing, Mr. Xu also provided rich practical guidances on how to better cultivate students' visual thinking and guide them to have deeper learning in the class. Mr. Xu's sharing triggered active discussion among the teachers, and all of them expressed that they had benefited a lot.
现任中国教育学会外语专业委员会副秘书长许时升老师带来了《思维可视化教学》的分享讲座。许老师率先强调了可视化思维的重要性。思维可视化将学生的思维过程清晰地展现出来，它不仅能有效提高学习者阅读、写作、数学、逻辑思考等方面的能力，更能让老师更好地了解学生的学习情况，做到因材施教。
分享中，许老师还就在课堂中，如何更好地培养学生可视化思维，引导学生进行更深入的学习等问题提供了丰富的实操指导意见。许老师的分享引发了现场老师们的热烈思考与讨论，大家纷纷表示获益良多。
Teaching Training for "Our World"
Finally, Ms. Hou Yi gave a detailed explanation of the learning material "Our World" which was adopted by I-EP. Ms. Hou pointed out that "Our World" integrates 21st century core literacy into English teaching, brings real-life stories into the classroom, combines multidisciplinary content, and improve the cross-cultural appreciation of students. Moreover, It incorporates the world's advanced teaching concepts and the excellent teaching methods, and encompasses the core values that are commonly agreed by the whole world today which are closely connected with the IB training content.
At the same time, Ms. Hou also elaborately analyzed the content setting and using method of "Our World", so that our teachers and parents could have a more comprehensive understanding of the learning materials. It is not only a high-quality reading material for children to learn about the world, but also the best material for them to learn the language.
最后，侯艺老师对I-EP引入的学习资源《环球少年英语》进行了专业解读。侯老师指出：《环球少年英语》将21世纪核心素养融入英语学习，把真实生活的故事带入课堂、结合多学科内容，培养学生优秀的跨文化鉴赏力。它还吸纳了世界先进的教学理念和优秀的教学方法，囊括当今社会普遍认同的核心价值观，与IB培养内容紧密相连。
与此同时，侯老师还详细剖析了《环球少年英语》的内容设置和使用方法，让老师们、家长们对学习资源都有了更全面的认识。这不仅还是孩子们认知世界的优质读物，还是他们语言学习的最佳材料。
Open class is a good opportunity for teachers to refine the lessons and reflect their teaching. In the afternoon, we had a open class sharing session, in which Mr. Hemnell and Mr. Truax presented two wonderful classes with meticulous design. Professor Xu Shisheng participated in the class listening and evaluating.
公开课是教师成长的舞台，也是我们打磨课程、反思教学的好机会。在随后的时间里，我们进行了公开课的展示交流。Mr.Hemnell与Mr. Truax精心设计，带来了两节精彩课堂。许时升教授参与了听课与评课。
Mr. Hemnell's open class focused on revision. Through worksheets, crossword puzzles and other fun and interesting ways, he helped the G3 students to review the words they had learnt from this unit about the transport, the relative verb collocations and how to use conjunctions correctly in sentences. The whole lesson was well-designed, very interesting and stimulated students' learning motivation.
Mr. Hemnell的公开课以复习为主。他通过工作表、填字游戏等各种有趣好玩的方式帮助三年级的学生们重温了本单元学习过的有关交通工具的单词、与之相对的动词搭配，以及应该如何在句子正确使用连词。整堂课设计精巧、趣味横生，充分激发了学生的学习主动性。
In the open class of G7, Mr. Truax led the students to review the grammar knowledge of Unit 2, such as active and passive voice. When the children were confused, Mr. Truax didn't give direct answers, but guided them step by step to find the answers by association. The whole lesson was designed in a unique way, and the students always played an active role in learning process, getting knowledge by independent thinking.
在七年级的公开课堂上，Mr. Truax带领着同学们回顾了第二单元的语法知识，如主动语态和被动语态。当孩子们遇到困惑时，Mr. Truax不会直接给出回答，而是以联想的方法引导孩子们一步一步找到答案。整节课教学设计别具一格，学生们始终以主人翁姿态参与学习，在独立思考中获取知识。
Finally, Mr. Xu Shisheng made a meticulous and in-depth comment on the open class, affirming the merits and at the same time raising practical advices for improvement, which have benefited all the teachers who participated in this open class session.
最后，许时升老师对授课教师的公开课进行了细致深入的点评，肯定了优点，同时提出了切实可行的改进意见和建议，让授课老师以及参与听课的教师都受益匪浅。
The collision of ideas often gives us inspiration and enlightenment, and the interaction of practice often brings us motivation and progress. Rational thinking, rigorous content, open-mindedness, active atmosphere... In this English exchange feast, we discussed the theory and practice of English teaching, shared our experiences and insights, and achieved fruitful results, which provided new ideas and motivation to promote the reform and development of our English teaching in the future. I-EP will take this as an opportunity and continue to spare no effort in providing the best curriculum and education for our children.
